The Rocca d’Anfo is a military complex of outstanding historical and landscape interest. Located on the western slope of Lake Idro, it covers an area of more than 50 hectares.

The first fortifications date back to the Visconti period, but from the 15th century the Republic of Venice built new structures to control the borders and the main communication routes.

In 1797, the fortress came under French control and an extensive project of expansion and modernization began.

During this six-hour guided walk, visitors will travel back in time through walkways, bastions, and internal rooms, discovering how architecture is not only defense and function, but also memory, identity, and collective heritage.

The Rocca d’Anfo is part of the Network of Fortified Sites which, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2025, promotes the nationwide initiative “Open Fortresses”, involving about ten fortified sites across Italy.
